Our last minute day trip to Siena was definitely a highlight of our ten day stay in Italy. Sometimes impromptu experiences make the best memories, don't they? We had booked three nights in Florence and we really wanted to see more of Tuscany so we decided Siena would be a good day trip. The train to Siena was only 9.5 Euros one way. It took about 1.5 hours to get there and with nothing but wine country and rolling hills as scenery along the way, how could we go wrong? We are so glad we did. This city is so beautiful and so familiar...as if we had seen it in a film before. When you walk through the city gates, you literally feel as if you have walked back in time. We strolled the cobblestone streets, stopped for a coffee, a bottle of wine, a pizza, some pasta, shopped the art galleries and ceramics shops. Had some gelato. Such a contrast to the hustle and bustle of Florence. What a perfect day. Siena is pure magic.
