Why we love this brand: Lemlem was created by model Liya Kebede after visiting her native Ethiopa where she met with local women and learned of the challenges they were facing due to a diminishing market for their artisan made fabrics. This inspired Liya to create a clothing brand that would partner with local artisan women in Africa and help them earn a fair wage while also ensuring that they were able to continue their tradition of creating beautiful hand-loomed cotton textiles.
Meaning to bloom and flourish in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, lemlem is committed to elevating artisanship and expanding production and jobs across Africa.
"By employing traditional weavers, we're trying to break their cycle of poverty, at the same time preserving the art of weaving while creating modern, casual, comfortable stuff that we really want to wear." - Liya Kebede
